HarmoKnee

-with the ambition to contribute to knee injury prevention

Background: It is about 3 times higher risk for a serious knee injury (ligament damage) in soccer for girls than boys. It is estimated the same risk also in handball, basketball and floorball.

Consequences of a cruciate ligament injury: acute suffering for the individual player, family and team.Possible surgery. Long rehabilitation.

Method: We have created a training package with the hope to raise awareness among players, parents and coaches, thereby helping to prevent serious knee injury.

Training Package: HarmoKnee - consists of a lecture (for players, coaches, leaders and parents) and a training program. The players have the highest priority during the lecture for they are our most important piece in our ambition to prevent knee injuries. Players' understanding and participation is a top priority.

Evaluation: Approximately 1000 players (group 1) in about 50 teams were educated in HarmoKnee in 2006.During the 2007 season, they followed the recommendations in HarmoKnee. Then, about 50 teams (group 2 - approximately 1000 players) recommended to follow injury prevention guidelines according to previous / usual recommendations. By evaluating the project, we hope to reduce the risk of a knee injury.

Ambition: To contribute to better injury prevention training.
